In Search of the Big One

The Crater of Diamonds State Park was the traveling stop for the weekend as Colby and his mom headed to southwest Arkansas to strike it rich, along with his mom's college roommate, Amy, and her family. To say it was hot... well, that was an understatement! The hopeful diggers ignored the sign at the check-in desk indicating that the temperature in the diamond (field) mine was 110 degrees and trudged on in search of their buried treasure. Exactly 8.265 minutes after the hunt began, Colby's mom was the first to call it quits -- which, was about 8 minutes longer than anybody expected her to last! Soon after, the remainder of the sweaty diggers decided to abandon their search and head to the water park, which was adjacent to the mine. Hopes for a refreshing dip were dashed when the pool was cleared out due to a little boy pooping in the pool. According to the nice Park Ranger, the Arkansas Department of Health requires that after such an incident, the pool be cleared for 30 minutes and the chlorine level raised to 2.5...... thank heavens for rules! Over the course of the next 23 minutes, the kids decided that they really didn't want to swim -- even if the pool was poopless, so..... back to the Capitol City the travelers headed.
